Friends groups are support groups for public libraries. They often raise funds for projects or materials that the library budget cannot
cover, such as: videotapes, equipment, landscaping, books, building
repair, magazine subscriptions, blinds and curtains, computers, large-print books, and computer software.

They also often provide volunteer services that make it possible for the library to operate, such as: newsletters, surveys, decorations, article clipping, book sales, clerical help, displays, typing, outreach programs, refreshments at programs, grounds maintenance, and book mending.
